CONTEXT

My Role and Team

I spent 6 months as a 20% UX Researcher for the Workplace Tools team. During this time, I worked on projects that improved several sets of tools. To summarize these efforts, I highlight three projects below.

My mentor for this work was Marina Kobayashi.

METHODS

  • Contextual Inquiry

  • Guerrilla Research

  • Diary Study

PROJECT overview

1. compensation

Method: Contextual Inquiry

Summary: I helped conduct 16 hour-long observational sessions to understand how managers use tools to make compensation decisions related to salary, bonus and equity across technical and business organizations. The UXR and I used Dedoose for coding the qualitative data collected from these sessions and presented recommendations to People Ops and Engineering based on our findings.

2. dining

Method: Guerrilla Research

Summary: I worked on a project to help determine which features to implement in a tool that helps employees navigate cafes. For this project, I conducted brief 15-minute research sessions with 30 users. This guerrilla style research helped the product team make several important tactical decisions related to their design plans.

3. WELL-BEING

Method: Diary Study

Summary: I helped with participant onboarding and coding of qualitative data for a longitudinal well-being study. Through this project, I learned to code large qualitative data sets, assess inter-rater reliability and use Paco and Qualtrics.
